Of Ducks and Spiders and Suspects

Well all it appears the sacred shelf of "Boys Reading" has been assaulted. As a Librarian and a Sith Lord, I must seek out and provide justice to the vile villain who would perform such an act. An act so incredibly evvvviiilll not even a Sith would perpetrate it (unless it was a female Sith, hummm.......). First I, the great Darth Bill, must present my short list of suspects who just so happen to be ImaginOn employees (convenient isn't it) and are very shady characters indeed.

Suspect Number One - The Evil Ellen

She looks innocent, but behind that smile; pure EVIL!!!!!!!!!

She was my number 1 suspect from the start. As I trailed her she was very careful to not show her face. Look:

Why so shy Ellen???????

Surely you are not guilty of anything??????

My next suspect may surprise you all, but evil has many faces. Some that we even come to trust.

Suspect Number Two - The Carlman!!!!!!!!!!!!! (Dunt, don, dunnnnnnnnnnnn!!!!!!)

When investigating this incident I noticed Carl acting awfully suspicious. When I questioned him as you see in this picture he claimed he was as innocent as an angel. Hummmmmm...is he really?

Soon after this questioning I found on my desk, along with my super cool Spider-Man Comic and the latest Star Wars book I'm reading, this Princess Book!!!!!!! Who would dare!!!!!!! Then I realized this was probably the Carlman, putting this book on my desk to make me a suspect. Don't worry intrigued readers, I will get to the bottom of this mystery!!!!!!!

Well as I continue in my Sherlock Holmes mode, I also have some cool reads to present. So check it out:

Walt Disney Treasures: Uncle Scrooge - A Little Something Special by various - This is an awesome collection of some of the best Uncle Scrooge Stories ever told. The time period of stories that this Graphic Novel (GN) covers goes all the back to 1954 up till 2006. These stories are filled with high adventure, terrific comedy and are just plain fun reading. Uncle Scrooge with his every faithful relatives Donald, Huey, Louie and Dewey cover the globe and their hometown of Duckberg in this GN with a whoping 8 full length stories. My two favorite stories in this collection are " The Seven Cities of Cibola" by Carl Barks and "A Little Something Special" by Don Rosa. In the first story by Carl Barks, Scrooge, who is down in the dumps, is thrilled to be introduced to arrowhead collecting by Donald and the boys (Huey, Dewey, and Louie). Even with all the money he has, he finds collecting arrowheads worth 50 cents each is too good to pass up! While searching though, the ducks end up on the trail of bigger treasure, that of the legendary Seven Cities of Cibola. Unfortunately the Beagle Boys happen to find out what the ducks are up to. The second story by Don Rosa finds everyone trying to find a gift for the duck who has everything (that being of course Uncle Scrooge) with the person who finds out what he wants most winning a million dollars. This turns out to be an evil plot to bring down scrooge by some of his nastiest enemies (The Beagle Boys, Magica DeSpell, Flintheart Blomgold and Blackheart Beagle). Scrooge, Donald and the boys are in it deep in this story. Find out what happens; check out this GN!!!!!

Marvel Adventures Sider-Man #48 by Todd Dezago and Jonboy Meyers - I just got finished reading ImaginOn's latest issue of this comic and I have to say it was most excellent. Spidey gets both The Scorpion and Electro on his case in a serious way when he thwarts robberies each attempts separately. They both decide to hunt him down and dish out some serious pain in his direction. Talk about being between a rock and a hard place, check this issue out to see how everyone's favorite web slinger solves this "shocking" and "stinging" situation!!!!!! Good Stuff!!!!!!!!!!!

Sanity is just a State of Mind

Hi all out there in Blog Land! I have regained my sanity, I think, and have decided that I am almost certainly, definitely, most probably, pretty sure, I think, Darth Bill--greatest of all the Sith!!!!! Hahahahahahahahahhhahahahahahahahhahhahahahhhahahhahahahhahahahhah!!!!
Sorry, I got a little carried away there. Halloween approaches and, I must admit, it is one of my favorite

holidays. I'm not sure what I'll dress as, so tell me what you think of these choices:

Here are two pretty frightening princesses' outfits I was thinking about for Carl. (Don't forget his challenge ends on October 31, Halloween Day. If we can get 8 more of you to write and tell us about your favorite books, we will take a picture of Carl in a dress and post it on this blog!)

You know what? I think I will just go out trick-or-treating as myself!!!!

Oh well, thanks for hearing me out on that difficult choice-making decision. Well, I guess now I'll talk about some cool books I have read recently:

Walt Disney's Uncle Scrooge No. 367 by Carl Barks and others - This Graphic Novel has four

really funny Uncle Scrooge, Donald Duck and Huey, Louie and Dewey stories. The first story by the great Carl Barks involves Donald and his nephews trying to squeeze 5 dollars out of their stingy, ultra-rich relative to help build a park. Scrooge resists, of course, and a great story follows. In the second story, Donald, through his usual unplanned wacky ways, becomes the manager of three boxers. Donald has no idea what he is doing and the outcome is extremely comical. The third story has our fabulously rich Uncle Scrooge losing his memory and thinking he is Donald. Enuff Said!! The last story is about Uncle Scrooge and his famous first dime earned. Once again someone is trying to steal it from him and the laughs and gags are plentiful. This book is a must read.

Marvel Adventures - The Avengers: Bizarre Adventures - Now I know I have to have some Avengers fans out there. I'm talking Captain America, Wolverine, Iron Man, Storm, Spider-Man,

the Hulk and Giant Girl all on one team in one Graphic Novel. I ask you, can it get any better? This Graphic Novel includes stories from the comic issues #9-12. The story I liked the best was the last one in the book in which a living planet called Ego thinks the Earth is a sentient being like itself and tries to pick this fine lady up. It is too funny for words to describe Ego hitting on the Earth to get it to go away with him and see the galaxy. Along with the laughs is also lots of action. The other stories are full of spectacle and adventure and you need to read them yourself. Did I mention one of the stories has a special guest star in the Black Knight? Check it out; you won't regret it.

1. Every post has a place underneath it that says "Comments". Click on it and it will take you to a place in which you can write something. When you're done, click on a way to identify yourself. You don't have to create a Blogger/Google account (unless you already have one); you can click on "Name/URL" or even "Anonymous." Then click "Publish Your Comment." We try to get your comments and reviews posted right away, but sometimes we get busy with other duties. So, if you don't see your comment right away, don't panic. We'll post it soon.

Don't forget--any boy can get a free book the first time he writes a review. If you live too far away to come to the Myers Park library, go ahead and write to us anyway. We'll try to find a way to get a book to you. Besides, all the other boys out there would love to hear from you.

2. Blogs go "front to back"; that is, the newest post comes up first and the older ones are put further back. You click on the "Blog Archive" to read older articles. The posts for this month have the titles listed. You can click on other months to catch our other posts. (Our introduction is in June of 2007; if you're new to this blog, you might look it up.)

3. Underneath each post you'll see a line that says "Labels" and several other words such as "graphic novels" or "Andrew Clements." These extra words are links to a subject; for instance, if you clicked on "graphic novels," it would pull up all the posts about graphic novels. There's also a section below on some of our best posts on the most popular subjects

4. Did you notice that the posts from last year don't show up month by month as they did before this year? If you click on the triangle next to the previous years, the months will drop down and you can go back and see what we and your fellow readers have written.

The Iron Guy's Review Policy

1. Since the Iron Guy works for the terrific Charlotte Mecklenburg Library, I review only books that the library already has or will get soon.
2. If you are an author or publisher or agent and think you have a book that boys will go crazy over, please leave me a comment (with your email address so I can contact you) under any post. I will look and see if we have the book. If not, and if the book looks good, I will contact Those Who Order Books and see if CML would be interested. (Please note--CML does not usually order self-published books) PLEASE do not just send me a book! I appreciate the offer but but first I want to see if CML has it or will get it soon.
