Greetings, all you rocking and reading guys! I hope you all had great holidays and are enjoying the break. This is the time of year the grownups make Best Of or Top Ten lists for the year, so I'm going to present my Top Five books of 2011. (click on the titles to see the original reviews)
The Eagle of the Ninth by Rosemary Sutcliff. Not only is it the top book of this year, it's one of the most remarkable books I've ever read. It starts off sort of slowly but, once the adventure starts, it's one wild ride!! I've rarely felt such suspense or danger in any book.
Milo: Sticky Notes and Brain Freeze by the terrific Alan Silberberg. Another remarkable and extraordinary book. You've got humor, a very touching story and some good lessons about life. I can't say enough good things about this book---and it's way better than the Diary of a Wimpy Kid books! (at least, I think so--go back and check out The Great Greg Heffley Debate from this year)
The Lost Hero. Another winner from the great Rick Riordan. Although The Son of Neptune has more humor, this one has more action and heroics. Jason is a hero worthy to be included in the Percy Jackson series.
Vespers Rising by various authors. The 39 Clues continues with new and even deadlier villains! This one gives the background on the Chaill/Vespers conflict. Lots of action and some real people from history.
How Football Works by Keltie Thomas. An informative and entertaining book. It's got enough information to satisfy new or long-time football fans.

The Son of Neptune is the best book I ever read! The Son of Neptune has a lot of action! Percy, Hazel, and Frank meets Queen Hylla, and there, they take Arion a lightning speed horse. They use him to go on a quest to save the god Thanatos in Alaska. Percy, Hazel, and Frank have to kill a giant, which is invernible too in Alaska. So, Percy, Hazel, Frank, and Arion take Thanatos to Canada, where he can be killed. Percy has to kill many many ghosts to recieve something. Will Percy surive the ghosts? Will he retrieve something that he needs to?
Diary of a wimpy kid is the best! I read the Cabbin fever 3 times and im working on my 4th.
Everyone should totally read the Red Pyramid! It is a really good book. The Red pyramid is about 2 people ( Carter and Sadie)who are trying to defeat Set because all of those Egyptian Gods are popping right out.Carter and Sadie are really powerful and can do alot of magic. They were seprated when thier mother died .Carter and Sadie are have the BLOOD OF THE PHAROAS, which is really rare.

I wish they would make another book for the Harry Potter series.
I see a lot of people like Harry Potter 4. Some even made it their favorite book. Makes me want to hang with my New Year's resolution. And sarahrocks85, you should be proud to be a girl. I'm proud to be a guy. Yes, being a guy is great--you can make all the stupid jokes you want, yell obnoxiously loud at sporting events, and eat insane amounts of food with no nutritional value. It's a great life!
I don't know SUPER CELESTE--a book would have to be awfully good to beat Milo: Sticky Notes and Brain Freeze.
I recently came across The Eagle of the Ninth, and have a copy sitting on my shelf waiting to be read- great to hear such a glowing review. I haven't read anything by Alan Silberberg, but will seek him out- sounds fun.
The Eagle of the Ninth is not just an extraordinary kid's book, it's one of the most extraordinary books I've ever read in my long reading life. Milo is pretty extraordinary too. I gave both books to a friend as a Christmas present.
