Zeus, King of the Gods by George O'Connor

GUYS!!! You've GOT to get this graphic novel!! It's totally, amazingly INCREDIBLE!! I haven't this worked up for long time, but this gn is fan-tastic! George O'Connor has started an enormous project, turning the stories of the 12 ancient Greek immortals into graphic novels. This one focuses on Zeus. It starts with the creation of the world and goes into the domination of the earth by the Titans, Zeus's quest for his birthright, and the great battle of Zeus and Kronos. Wow! What a story. And what artwork!! George O'Connor does both the story and art and he excels mightily. This is everything a guy could want. As it says on the back, "Epic battles, daring quests, and terrible monsters await you." What more do you want? And what a perfect thing to read during the weekend that The Lightning Thief movie opens!! (PS--I'll give a free book to any one who writes a review of the movie) Zeus, King of the Gods--go get it!! And Bill, Zack--I'd love to hear what you think of it.

WOW!!! SUPER SIMRAN is the undisputed winner!! YAAAAYYYY!!! Super Simran, you can come to the Myers Park library and claim your prize. Or, if you can't, I'll make sure you get it. Same for you, all you second placers. And you too, Sarah! You're our third-place winner.

Hey, wait a minute--we have FOUR boys in second place! That's Michael, Ryan, Soccer Shawn and Davidson. Congratulations, guys! This has never happened before. Well, this is great! It shows that lots of boys enjoy reading and that's what this blog is all about. We have lots of prizes in the box, so there will be plenty for all of you. As I said, come to the Myers Park library and get your prizes or I will find a way to get them to you.

Hey, wait another minute--Super Simran is the first-place winner and that means--

that means---

---a girl is the overall winner at the BOYS Read blog!! This has never happened before either. Fortunately, the Iron Guy is not made of inflexible metal (the iron is only for toughness!) and can enjoy any new situation. I think we can all be happy that kids, boys and girls, enjoy reading. In fact, this just goes to show that girls can enjoy good reads as much as boys. And--celebrating a girl winning the Boys Read contest shows just how good-natured boys really are, giving the world more proof of the awesome greatness of boys!!

Seriously, though, this has been a great contest and I thank all of you for writing in. Now don't think this means you have to stop!! We still want to hear about good reads! So keep sending in those reviews and I'll keep posting them.OK? OK!!

Athena: Grey-Eyed Goddess by George O'Connor...

... is another AMAZINGLY TERRIFIC graphic novel in his Olympians series. He's taking all 12 of the deities in the ancient Greek pantheon and making a graphic novel about each one. This one is the second; the first was Zeus: King of the Gods and you can read my review here. After reading this one, all I could say was--

WOW!!

George O'Connor is one extremely talented artist and writer, taking these stories, which are thousands of years old, and making them as thrilling, intense, and fun as any graphic novel you'd find at your local comics store. And what stories he has to tell, from Athena's highly unusual birth to her battle with the Gigantes! If that wasn't enough, you also get Perseus and Medusa and Athena's little weaving competion with Arachne. Guys, if you like mythology, or are a Percy Jackson fan, or simply like great stories and artwork that will knock your socks off, then you need to check out Athena: Grey-Eyed Goddess!

More MRSA Reviews!

Hey ho, all you reader guys, the Iron Guy has been very busy lately and that's why I haven't posted the rest of the reviews from the great kids at Metrolina Regional Scholars Academy. So, without any more chitchat, let's hear about the books they read: (once again, these reviews are in not particular order and the names are in bold type)

Eleanor Estes is the best author everrrrrrrr!!! She wrote the book Hundred dresses. Its about Wanda a girl who makes hundred dresses. Wanda always gets teased at school. Read and see what happens next.
I like this book because it’s a little touching if you like touching books you will enjoy reading it .P.S it won a Newberry Honor medal.

The wolves of the beyond: LONE WOLF
By Kathryn Lasky

Faolan is a little maldcah wolf pup. In Wolf langauge maldcah means "cursed one" but faolan is forced by thunderheart to used his twisted paw for better. The spiral on his paw leads him to a cave faolan later reffers to as "the cave through time" What do the ancient paintings mean? Where will they lead Faolan? Can Foalan figure it out before all goes wrong? Read about it in book #1 LONE WOLF.

I love this book because of the fast action & fantasy relating to reality. It is a great book for children ages 10+. It is teaching a very valuable lesson and something you need to learn: Just because you may be different all are equal. Never give up hope. Beleive.

THE CABIN FEVER IS GREAT BOYS I WOULD RECOMMEND IT FOR YOU :) :) :) <3 IT

(this one is obviously about the latest Wimpy Kid book--Iron Guy Carl)

My favorite series is the Percy Jackson series. The author is Rick Riordan.
I just started the book and it is great. The plot and setting is interesting. I’ve already seen the movie but I think the book is way better than the movie. It’s about a boy named Percy Jackson and the gods think he stole the lightning bolt from his uncle, Zeus. He has to give it back to him by a specific time. Can he make it? I liked this book.

Diary of a wimpy kid by: Jeff Kinney

The Mysterious Benedict Society is a book by Trenton Lee Stewert and is the best book ever because there is just 4 kids in the whole world who can stop the evil Lathrode Curtain from controlling the world these kids are Reynie , Sticky , Kate and the stubborn Constance. With the help of Milligan, Mr. Benidict, Rhonda, and Number .Two the kids must go to a mysterious school on a mysterious island.

The BFG
This book is about a girl who gets caught by a giant the BFG ( the big friendly giant) . That girl figures out that 8 other giants travel at night and gobble up humans like they are a snack of popcorn. In this book they are words that the BFG says that make no sense because the BFG never went to school. I really like this book because it is really funny. It also not the closest to be true.

I don’t really like this book because it is really slow at the beginning. But that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t read it.

shadow ninja anonamis ( I am crazy )

The book I am reviewing is Pearcy Jakson And The Battle Of The Labrenth by Rick Riordan the amazing it is about a boy who is a son of posiden. he goes into a living maze to get one of the ways to navigate the maze so no one else can. Will he make out alive? See for yourself and read Pearcy Jakson And The Battle Of The Labrenth

Ife

For the Son of Neptune I liked it because it has a lot of action and suspense.
